Christ Church, Frackville, PA Celebrating Over 130 Years!
In 1877, Christ Episcopal Church held its first service in a rented building located on Nice Street. It moved to various locations in the same vicinity over the next several years as the congregation grew from six members. In 1886 a small church building was erected. It was finished in February 1887 and became officially know as Christ Church Mission. Christ Church's membership kept growing to the point where an addition was added in 1897. The first services held in the newly enlarged church were on June 27, 1897.
The Church continued to grow and eventually purchased a rectory as well. It continued to go through various stages of growth and then the population began to decline do to the big decline of the coal industry. Younger people moved to the cities for other safer and cleaner jobs.
Christ Church had a new sidewalk built along with a handicapped ramp so that the elderly and handicapped might have access to our church.
In the early 1960's Christ Church shared a pastor with St. James Church, Schuylkill Haven. In 1967, the pastor left and in 1968 several Episcopal churches combined to become what is now known as North Parish. They were: Faith Church- Mahanoy City, St. John's Memorial Church-Ashland, Christ Church-Frackville, Holy Apostles Church-Saint Clair, and St. Paul's Church, Minersville and a mission church in Forestville.
When North Parish was incorporated, Faith Church, Mahanoy City and the mission church in Forestville were closed. St. Paul's Church, Minersville has since been deconsecrated and sold. Christ Church is now listed to be sold, but as yet to be deconsecrated.
